What to Expect and How to Prepare for Your
Carpet Installation
A proper, professional installation is crucial to the life and performance of your carpet. Because of this, it is important to know what to expect during your carpet installation.
Steamboat CarpetsPlus will send out an estimator to measure your rooms and determine how to minimize waste in order to maximize your savings. We will also schedule a local professional installer who is familiar with your carpet and has the necessary experience to install it in your home. The installation team will need to use your electricity to power their tools as well as an area to work. It is also important to make sure the area to be carpeted is heated as this helps the carpet to be pliable and stretch easier for a better installation.
If you are aware of pet odors, please bring this to the attention of the estimator as additional floor prep may be needed. If this or other unforeseen issues arise upon tear out, additional cost may be incurred to correct these problems.
The installers will move your furniture as part of their installation; however, you will still need to move your small items like lamps, televisions, computers or any other breakables before the installer arrives. If you have any larger items, over sized furniture or appliances you may need to arrange to have this moved by a third party, but check with your estimator first as there may be additional charges for these items.
Once the work begins, your installer will be responsible for removing and disposing of your old carpet. Molding and trim can be fragile and despite their best efforts, your installation team may scratch a few pieces. If this happens, it is typically your responsibility to repair them. If you have fresh paint we suggest you cover your base boards with “Frog Delicate Surface Tape” that can be bought at Sherwin Williams. At some point, your installer may need to remove your doors to complete the installation. If the new carpet is thicker, your doors will have to be trimmed before they can be reinstalled. Most carpet installers do not perform carpentry work so it will be your responsibility to either trim them yourself or hire a professional to reinstall them.
Carpet comes mostly in 12 foot wide rolls so there will be seaming in some areas. We place the seams in the best locations to avoid traffic areas and to hide seams as best as possible. If you have concerns regarding seam placement and visibility please discuss with your estimator, moving a seam to a different location may require extra materials.
As with any construction project, dust is inevitable, the installer will vacuum after installation.
